Book Recommendations - Summarizing
"Giant Pandas", Abraham Lincoln" (examples of kindergarten students summarizing a book)
The links are video recording of students summarizing a story. The following is an idea for the lesson.
Step 1: A book is read in the whole group.
Step 2: The class discusses the book and participates in sequencing the book.
Step 3: The discussion continues as the students talk about why they like the book and why they would recommend it to others.
Step 4: Over time, each child will take a turn summarizing the book while being videotaped.
Note: Students will take turns using the camera to video tape a classmate as they summarize the book.
