Livescribe Echo smartpens are user friendly and can help young students be more independent learners.
Record older books on cassette tape to change your listening center from using a tape player to using a smartpen. It is so easy to use and the only button to push is the one to turn it on.
Record the students' favorite ABC song on the pen and with a touch of a sound sticker the students can interact with the ABC chart
Record the letters and sounds, student names, and high frequency words on the letter wall (word wall)
Record the thematic word lists that support units of study
Record a short description of each of the classroom pets, so students can learn more about the pet...independently
Record the labels for the parts of the body so that students, who might not know the words and pictures, can hear the label, and be more successful placing the label on the model
Record the students drawing a living organism and have them talk about how they know it is living and what living things need (this type of activity can be a great pre-assessment to help guide your teaching). They become pencasts that can be shared with parents or kept for assessment data. (click on the word "pencasts" above to view and listen to the pre-assessment that Ms. Polan helped my students with).
This is the newest Smartpen - Echo. You can remove the ballpoint pen and put in a stylus, which is great for young children, since most of their use seems to be touching the sound sticker dots that you can recorded audio on.
