Making Math Meaningful Using Digital Tools

These math activities were documented by Josie Hughes.

Illuminations

This is a site supported by NCTM. Great interactive math activities for K - 2nd grade students. Works well on a computer or with an IWB or wireless pad.

Natural Library of Virtual Manipulatives

The NLVM is a website with virtual manipulatives for students K-12.  The site is well organized, complete and students find it very engaging.

Create a Graph

This site contains 5 different types of graphs and charts for students to work with.  The site is nicely set up in that it allows students to create these varying types of graphs (e.g., bar, pie, etc.), and it is relatively easy to use.

Math Toybox

Students work with pattern blocks and the site gives a rotate and flip option.  This offers the students more options when creating their pictures or patterns.

Tut Pup

More online math games including addition.  The adding option is easy and good for students who are adding numerals without counting objects.  Also, students will enjoy the competing with other kids around the world.

Coolmath4Kids

This is another cool site for students.  They use colors to help explain problems and it is very helpful for those students who are struggling.

Animoto Movie with examples of using technology tools in math.
